I think the latest statement of Marco really made the point.

Strategic McKinsey-style guidance and advice is fine, marketing and contacts are also vital, but Italian start-ups considering to move to the valley also face a number of really practical problems (legal, fiscal, administrative, logistic).

Do I need to have a US citizen as a partner, to incorporate a new company in California? How much will I pay for renting & setting up a small commercial office in the valley ? Is it there any possibility to get Angel/VC funds while leaving the production staff (i.e. most of the company) in Italy ?

I wonder if BAIA does provide such a practical legal/logistic support to its members. I did not find anything explicit on this point. Can you provide some insight ?

Is it there any possibility, in the future, that you set-up an incubator in/near the valley, so that selected Italian start-ups can place a foot there at a reasonable cost for some time and check if the business opportunities they find are worth the investment of setting up their own, permanent location ?

Thank you for your work.

Antonio, I just replied to a similar post on ocrampal's blog.
BAIA is not an incubator but a network of entrepreneurs and professionals who can share with you their practical experiences and their contacts. So that you can ask all these questions to people who have already come here from Italy and know the answers. It is not McKinsey style reports or contacts lists and trade shows. It is all about sharing our collective knowledge and improving the understanding of how things really work here, why some have failed, and how those who made it did it.
We can continue the dialogue offline and give you all these answers if you email me or Franco or any of the others in BAIA.
